You want regulars to keep coming back. But how do you keep them engaged between visits?

Our partners at TapWyse analyzed more than 4.6 million push notifications across 307 breweries over 12 months to find out what gets customers to engage.

Here’s what the data tells us, and how you can put it to work:

Make it personal

Not every regular cares about the same thing. Some come for new releases, others for events or member perks. Targeted push notifications achieved 28.02% engagement, compared with 15.86% for broadcast messages, nearly double the rate.

Try grouping customers by what they care about. Send your mug club members exclusive offers, or give your hopheads a heads-up when the new IPA hits the taps.

Give regulars the VIP treatment

Customers love feeling like insiders. Member-exclusive messages had the highest engagement rate of any category at 24.65%, outperforming general promotions, new releases, and events.

Give your members something they can’t get anywhere else, whether that’s early access to a limited release, a members-only tapping, or a special mug club perk.

Timing matters

The strongest engagement window was between 2 and 5 PM, while the day of the week had relatively little impact.

Instead of debating the best day to send, try scheduling your next event reminder or new-release announcements for the late afternoon. Test different times to see what works best for your regulars.

Focus on the message, not the extras

Emojis can grab attention, but they’re no substitute for a message customers care about. Messages without emojis averaged 18.02% engagement, compared with 16.11% for messages with them.

That’s not to say you should ditch emojis altogether. ⚡ performed particularly well for flash promotions, while 👀 was a hit for teasers and sneak peeks.

Lead with a relevant reason to engage. And sometimes, that includes a little flair 🎉.

Put the insights to work

The best results come from more reasons to engage:

  • Personalize your messages
  • Reward your regulars
  • Time your sends strategically
  • Prioritize substance over flair

With Arryved + TapWyse, you can put these insights to work through a custom-branded brewery app, flexible membership programs, and targeted push messaging tools. TapWyse is available through Arryved, giving you more ways to stay connected with your regulars beyond the taproom.
